Hi all,
This event may be of interest for any institution wanting to learn about
working with Wikipedia - particularly those based in Scotland.
*Course Overview*
Open knowledge is a way to engage new audiences, and even potential new
income streams. Wikipedia, one of the most popular websites in the world,
is part of the open knowledge community, publishing free information that
anyone can use, edit, and distribute.
With English language Wikipedia alone hitting 8 million views per hour,
there is a huge potential audience hungry for information. And Wikipedia
wants more cultural institutions to get involved.
This session will look at how other organisations, including the British
Museum and the National Library of Scotland, have positively benefited from
working with Wikipedia, and give examples of the different kinds of
projects which are possible. Weâll explore the different ways in which the
Wikimedian in Residence can get involved with your organisation, including
further training and events.
This half day morning course can be paired with our afternoon session
âIntroduction to Editing Wikipedia for Cultural Sector Professionalsâ, or
taken alone. If booking both sessions, lunch will be provided.
*Learning Objectives*
By the end of this course you should be able to better understand the ways
and benefits of working with Wikipedia partners and appreciate the benefits
of open knowledge in a museums and galleries context.
