Discussion:
[GLAM] New tool

FYI, I wrote a tool that works similarly to baGLAMa, but you can request
categories on-the-fly:

https://tools.wmflabs.org/glamtools/glamoran.html

The tool is using the WMF pageview API, and is limited by this (earliest
data is 2015-08).
Also, it works entirely in the browser, so using large category trees are
not recommended.

Cool! I just used it on Category:Paintings by Rembrandt, and it came back
with this:
1,270 files in category tree.
6,009 pages use those files.
24,159,427 file views in 2016-01.

Thanks for the work!
I tried it with "Files from Academia Argentina de Letras"
8 files in category tree.
7 pages use those files.
2,239 file views in
2016-01.
ItÂŽs nice to have the top 25 with the thumbnails.

Great tool!

I used it on Category:Queensland Heritage Register and

1,936 files in category tree.

1,748 pages use those files.

2,820,177 file views in 2016-01.

116 pages could not be checked for view data in the <https://wikimedia.org/api/rest_v1/?doc> pageview API.

But I am curious what the error message about the 116 pages meant?

Kerry

I checked the API return codes, and the look-ups return 404, but also a
(rather well-hidden) message that there is no data for that page on that
project. The project works for other pages, so I guess there is no view
data, either because no one viewed the page, or because it got lost in the
mail.

A 404 error just appears to be the API's way of saying "no views". I have
thus deactivated the warning.

(I also moved the page to the correct spelling,
https://tools.wmflabs.org/glamtools/glamorgan.html )

I tried this, and for both
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Nationalmuseet and
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Paintings_in_Statens_Museum_for_Kunst,
I got 0 views in 2016-01. That seems wrong.

Ole

It works like a charm in Firefox. Perhaps I should let Chrome get some rest.
