Hi all!

Today starts a new photo contest organized by Wikimedia Spain and focused
on festivals declared of touristic interest in Spain: Wiki Loves Folk. The
contest aims to collect images freely licensed to illustrate content on
these festivals in Wikipedia and enhance the online presence of Spanish
folklore. Along with its monumental and environmental richness, Spain has a
rich and varied folklore: carnivals, food festivals, religious celebrations
as Easter or Corpus Christi, cultural and sporting events or popular
festivals, among others.

It is about sharing original photographs, taken recently or in the past,
between April 1 and 30, 2016 or, in a second period, between November 15
and December 15, 2016. The subject of the contest is all those festivals
declared of touristic interest by the various administrations:
international, national, regional, provincial and local levels. The
complete list, with additional information and a map for each region is
available at [http://wikilov.es/folk wikilov.es/folk], the competition
website. To participate, simply have an user account on Wikimedia Commons
and upload the pictures by following the steps on the web.

Best,

Hi all!

The first period of image upload from Wiki Loves Folk contest has ended (the
second period will be between November and December). A total of 25
contributors have uploaded 1150 pictures (
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images_from_Wiki_Loves_Folk_2016_in_Spain)
ItÂŽs the first occasion being celebrated, and considering it a subject that
arouses a priori less interest than the monuments and natural areas, we
think it is a positive quantity.

About the contest, folk itself involves involves many different
subjects: traditional
costumes, music, dance, crafts, festivals ... In this first edition we
focus on festivals but facing other years and other countries we could
focus on any of these subjects.

Best,

Hi, sounds good. WMDE is supporting a volunteer project called
Festivalsommer
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Festivalsommer>, where
volunteers are geting a grant to be able to participate and plot different
festivals in Germany. The images often are reused in Wikipedia articles.

Could it be Wiki Loves Festivals as I'd have trouble selling Wiki Loves
Folk as having anything to do with festivals when the actual interpretation
would be people. Its a similar problem Australia has been faced with with
WLM in that the understanding of what Monuments are and the scope of the
project clash. Outside that its a good idea that would be able to be
replicated in many places
Sounds like a great campaign for glam partners to participate in!
